Other charges include bribery, fraud, and extortion.
U.S. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey pleaded not guilty to a charge alleging that he acted as a foreign agent for the government of Egypt while serving as a member of Congress. This is a new charge levied against him on top of counts of conspiracy to commit fraud, bribery, and extortion, for which Senator Menendez has also pleaded not guilty.
These charges were filed after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided his home in June 2022, finding envelopes full of $100 bills in his jackets with his name written on them, multiple gold bars, and a luxury vehicle parked in his garage. The senator stepped down as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee but has refused calls to resign from the U.S. Senate.
Senator Menendez continued to deny any wrongdoing after his arraignment. “We are innocent. We are going to prove it,” the senator stated as he left the federal courthouse in New York City.
Senator Menendez is continuing to serve in the Senate as his court procedures take place, excusing himself as needed to participate in Senate business.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the federal judge presiding over the court proceedings.
- For the senator and his wife as they appear for their hearings.
- For FBI officials as they investigate violations of federal laws.
